    Instruments:

Ellen was a great admirer and friend of Carleen Hutchins (who passed away this past summer at 98), the famed pioneer in violin making, and plays one of Carleen’s mezzo violins. Check out more about Carleen and her violin octet at www.newviolinfamily.org or www.hutchinsconsort.org

She also plays (and electrifies) a fiddle made by A.J. Marden out of Exeter, NH built in 1908. She uses a PUTW pickup with a Demeter Pre-amp.

Also included in her fiddle arsenal are a couple of her great-grandfather Carlson’s fiddles (he was a Swedish fiddler based out of New Britain, CT).
